Day 3: From Netherlands to Germany
Hitting the Road: We met our bus driver, Richard, and loaded up our bus for the drive to Germany. We were so impressed all around. Not only was Richard a fantastic driver and a super-nice guy, but the bus was very comfortable and meticulously clean. We definitely would travel confidently and in comfort.
History and Food: Our stop at the Netherlands Open Air Museum was great. We got to explore authentic farms, windmills and homes from different points in history. For lunch, we got to experience a traditional three-course pancake meal. Entering the Home Country: We come from German heritage, so it was especially exciting for us to cross the boarder into Germany. It was neat to see the German villages that dotted the countryside. There were many similarities to central Minnesota where we grew up. The Crane Tower: In Bacharach, we stayed at the oldest hotel on our tour itinerary, the Kranenturm, which translates to the Crane Tower. The owners, Kurt and Fatima Engel, were gracious hosts, and we enjoyed wonderfully decorated rooms in our hotel along the Rhine River. Our traditional German dinner, complete with Spätzle, was excellent. |
